Industrial laundries: the product category rules for “Green Made in Italy” mark

The Product Category Rules (RCP) for Industrial Laundries were published by Ministry of Ecological Transition on the last 18th of June, to obtain the Made Green in Italy mark, pursuant to Decree Law 56/2018. It’s important to underline that the Minimum Environmental Criteria (under Decree Law of 9 December 2020) for the reliability of industrial laundries and textile rental’s services include the Made Green in Italy mark in reward criteria.

LCA Ambiente has followed the evolution of this path conducted by Assositema, the association representing production and distribution companies, maintenance services of individual and collective protective equipment, services of textile and medical devices sanitizing and sterilization used in healthcare, tourist and industrial sector.

The published rule (RCP) refers to industrial laundry service, that include cleaning activities, textile reprocessing and rental, protection devices and work wear rental, sterile medical devices rental (only textile surgical kit).

In the RCP, the representative product is industrial laundry service and the functional unit is 1 kg of cleaned product, specifically, the rule is referred to WASHING and RENTAL (in the unit of 1 kg) of:

  • TEXTILE SUPPORT 100% WHITE OR YARN-DYED COTTON in healthcare and tourist sector
  • WORK WEAR IN HEALTHCARE SECTOR
  • REUSABLE BASE SURGICAL KIT (sterilized and cleaned in TTR) for the hospital sectors
  • WORK WEAR (DPI included)

The LCA analysis results in a Environmental Footprint Statement of Product, that shall be performed in according to specific guidance dictated by Ministry of Environment with the aim of comparing similar products performances. The Environmental Footprint Statement review must be carried out in according to Annex n. 3 of Decree Law of 21 March 2018.
